A stunning print by Frank Wootton, showing one of the most spectacular attacks in the history of the Strike Wings, which took place on 21st July 1944. Four squadrons engaged a large protected convoy with over 30 escort ships off the East Friesian Islands. The protecting flak ships carried up to 72 anti-aircraft guns and on this occasion were firing 'chute and cable' - parachute supported cables, designed to bring down attacking aircraft. Warrant Officer Pilip Brett's Beaufighter dropped a torpedo, while one of the other aircraft attacked another ship with rockets. Two ships were sunk - one credited to Philip Brett - others damaged, and all the aircraft returned safely. The print is signed by Frank Wootton and 5 pilots: Philip Brett, Group Captain Richard Burns, Wing Commander David Cartridge, Group Captain Gatward and Air Chief Marshal Sir Neil Wheeler. Issued in a numbered limited edition of 850. Comes beautifully mounted and framed, ready for hanging. A limited edition of 850.
